Here's what is going on in UC sports this week:
The baseball team will host Western Michigan in a four-game series this weekend at Marge Schott Stadium. Game one will be at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by a doubleheader Saturday. The first game is at 1 p.m., and the second game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The final game will be at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Bearcats are 7-5 this season.
The men's basketball team will make its return to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 6 seed in the West region. UC will open tournament play against 11th-seeded Missouri at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday.
The outdoor track team opens its 2011 season when it hosts the Early Bird Relays Saturday at Gettler Stadium.
The women's lacrosse team defeated Detroit, 14-12, last Friday at Nippert Stadium. Cincinnati snapped a three-game losing streak while handing the Titans their third-straight loss. The Bearcats are 2-4 on the year.
UC announced founding member of the women's soccer program, the late Kim Berman, as the recipient of the 2011 National Girls and Women in Sports Day Award last Wednesday. Berman, who passed away at the age of 52 in the fall of 2010 after a long battle with breast cancer, leaves a strong legacy behind at the University of Cincinnati and in women's sports.
