Here’s a look at the week ahead, as football closes out non-conference play against rival Miami(OH) and men’s soccer takes on crosstown rival Xavier.
The men’s golf team plays in their second tournament of the fall season, traveling to Simpsonville, Ky. for the Cardinal Intercollegiate tournament. The team hits the links starting Monday, where they will play 36 holes before closing out the tournament on Tuesday with 18 holes. The tournament takes place at the Cardinal Club Golf Course. The Bearcats travel to Ft. Meyers, Fl. on Sunday for the start of the Miromar Lake Collegiate.
Men’s soccer kicks off a three game home stand at Gettler Stadium on Wednesday at 7p.m., by welcoming cross-town rival Xavier. The Bearcats are 25-8-6 against the Musketeers. The team returns to Gettler on Saturday for their first BIG EAST home match of the season against West Virginia. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Cross Country travels to Cedarville, Ohio on Friday to compete in the All-Ohio Championship. Eric Finan and the men’s team looks to continue their dominance, while the women hope to keep their top five finish streak going.
Women’s soccer plays at home this week, hosting USF on Friday and Marquette on Sunday at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats will battle the Bulls at 7 p.m., Friday before taking on the Golden Eagles Sunday at 1 p.m.
Volleyball heads out on the road, as they travel to South Bend, Ind. and Chicago, Ill. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The team is matched up against Notre Dame at 2 p.m. then heads to DePaul for the fourth BIG EAST matchup of the season at 3 p.m. The bearcats are 2-0 against BIG EAST opponents this season.
Coming off of a dominating home win against NC State, the football team carries the momentum to Oxford, Ohio to battle Miami(OH) University in the Battle of the Victory Bell. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be aired on ESPN 3 along with radio coverage on 700 WLW. The Bearcats and RedHawks rivalry dates back to 1888, UC has won the last five games to keep hold of the coveted bell.
Women’s golf looks to improve on the 12th place finish last week, when they hit the golf course in the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa. The team will tee off on Saturday and Sunday.

What you missed last week:
Football dominated NC State, 44-14 on national television last Thursday. With a crowd of 28, 431 fans in attendance, the game was also televised on ESPN and for the first time, ESPN 3D. The Bearcats defense showed its strength by holding NCSU to -26 rushing yards. Quarterback Zach Collaros scored two rushing touchdown in the game. They have a record of 3-1 this season.
Women’s soccer continued BIG EAST play away at Providence and UCONN. The team fell 2-0 to Providence on Friday and finished tied 2-2 in double overtime with UCONN, on Sunday. The Bearcats outshot the Friar’s 9-7 and took 10 corner kicks but couldn’t produce. On Sunday, the team’s goalie Kristina Utley proved why she was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week the previous week, by making eight saves against UCONN. Their record is 5-4-3, 1-2-1 BE.
Men’s soccer lost 2-0 to Providence in its BIG EAST Conference opener, on Saturday. The Bearcats lead in shots 4-2 in the first half and finished the game with a total of eight shots. The team is 3-5-0, 0-1-0 BE for the season.
Volleyball swept all three game of their home stand that included two BIG EAST opponents. The team opened the home stand with a 3-2 win against Evansville. The team lost the first and third set, but rallied in the fifth set to win 15-11. The Bearcats opened BIG EAST play against Connecticut with a win in three straight sets. The Bearcats carried that momentum onto Sunday, where they beat St. Johns, 3-0. The team is now undefeated in the BIG EAST and holds the longest home win streak in the nation with 42 wins. The team has a record of 10-6, 2-0 BE.
Women’s golf finished 12th at the rain-shortened Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Ky. The team shot combined rounds of 320-304= 624 to finished eight points ahead of cross-town rival Xavier. Junior Maria Roos posted the lowest score for the Bearcats with rounds of 75-76= 151 to finish tied for 12th.
