Barbara Leik, a certified educator since 1999, became a member of the University of Cincinnati athletics department in December 2009 as a Lead Academic Tutor, where she provides academic support services to student-athletes.
Leik came to UC after serving as an Intensive Learning Specialist at Miami (OH) University. While at Miami, she provided support services to student-athletes with learning disabilities through the Office of Disability Services and was recognized by the Rinella Learning Center, Athletic Director and coaches for her successes.
Her first collegiate position was at Southwestern College from August 2006 to April 2007, where Leik was an instructor for Psychology, Sociology, Intro to Computers and Communications courses.
Prior to her collegiate work, Leik taught at Elder High School in Cincinnati, and served as the program director for the school's technology outreach program.
From July 2003 to January 2004, Leik was a program director for the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, operating a state licensed 21st Century Learning Center.
Leik's career in the education field began at Dunnellon (Fla.) High School, where she taught classes in technical education from September 1999 until June 2003.
A native of Cincinnati, Leik earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Certificate in Women's Studies & Gender Research from the University of Florida in 1999. She is currently enrolled in graduate school at UC.
