Thoman joined the Bearcats staff in February 2008 and currently serves as assistant athletics director and academic counselor, working primarily with upperclassmen football student-athletes and the women's soccer teams. Her responsibilities include assisting student-athletes with priority registration and class scheduling as well as generating and maintaining reports pertaining to study hall, missed appointments, and grades for coaches. She also works closely with other academic advisors in order to provide timely information on course/degree options. Additionally, Thoman monitors NCAA, BIG EAST, and UC eligibility standards for student-athletes.
She came to UC after working for seven years as a National Football Foundation academic coach for the Play It Smart Program at Winton Woods High School. There, she developed academic support programs for student-athletes and monitored the students' grades, progress and academic conduct throughout the year. She conducted various life skills workshops and taught SAT and ACT preparation classes for student-athletes.
Thoman earned her bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from St. Bonaventure before completing her master's in education from Xavier in 2002.
