University of Cincinnati head men's basketball coach Mick Cronin announced today that Lance Stephenson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln), a 6-6 forward and a 2009 McDonald's High School All-American, has signed a financial aid agreement with the Bearcats and will join the team for the 2009-10 season.

With two days remaining in the American League balloting for starters for the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in St. Louis on July 14, former University of Cincinnati baseball player and current Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis leads New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira by 40,047 votes. Youkilis and Teixeira have swapped spots for the past five weeks and last week, Teixeira was ahead by 35,632 ballots.

Track. David Payne Captures National Championship in 110 Hurdles at USATF Senior National

Former University of Cincinnati track and field all-American in the 110 high hurdles and 2008 Olympic silver medalist, David Payne, became the first UC track and field athlete to capture a National Championship after finishing in first place in the 110 high hurdles at the USA Track and Field Junior and Senior Nationals held in Eugene, Ore., June 25-28. Additionally, current UC track and field junior Antione Drakeford (Columbus, Ohio/Africentric) and freshman Michael Rutherford (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) finished 14th in the 400 meters of the senior national and 12th in the 800 meters of the junior national, respectively.
