Bearcat Bands
Official Band Web Page
Important aspects of the excitement and pageantry of the University
of Cincinnati home football games are the UC cheerleading and dance teams
and the Bearcat Marching Band. These groups provide more than just
entertainment, however. Like the Bearcat athletic teams, they have brought
national recognition to the university.
The Bearcat Marching Band is known for its contemporary approach to
both music and drill design. It has been a fixture at Cincinnati home
football games and selected UC road contests for the past 78 years. Over
200 UC students are involved in the band as instrumentalists or as members
of the Bearcat Guard, Twirlers and Drum Majors.
The Bearcat Varsity Band, a smaller pep-band unit, performs at all
Cincinnati home basketball games and other selected events, providing the
spark for the crowd enthusiasm of games in the Shoemaker Center.
Dr. Terren L. Frenz, who has compiled 38 years of success in music
education and performance, is director of the Bearcat Bands. Nationally
known as a conductor, lecturer and marching drill writer, Frenz has
directed previous bands or drum and bugle corps to five national
championships.
