The University of Cincinnati Dance Team is holding spring auditions for the 2012-2013 season Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th. This is your opportunity to audition to be a part of a nationally recognized program! Members of the Red and Black teams will be selected at this audition. The Red team performs at all home football & women's basketball games. The Black team performs at all home football & men's basketball games and competes at the UDA College National Championship in January. Both teams perform at select community and University events throughout the year. Scholarships are available for Black team members only. WHO: Incoming freshman, current University of Cincinnati students or transfer students Audition Requirements Prior dance experience is required. A pom sideline and a routine incorporating jazz and hip-hop styles will be taught. During the sideline and routine portion of the audition, dancers will be evaluated on attention to detail, execution, versatility and showmanship. We expect a high level of technical strength, physical endurance, control and body awareness. Please be prepared to properly execute the following technical elements: Turns: double, triple, and quadruple pirouettes fouettes (a la second) Leaps/Jumps: grande jete leap in second (center) toe touch calypso turning disc Hip-Hop Stall/Hand Stand: You must demonstrate one hip-hop stall of your choice. This should showcase your talent and strength. Demonstration of Flexibility: You will be asked to showcase your flexibility with strength and control during the jazz portion of the routine. In addition to the skills listed, you will be observed throughout the audition process on your attitude, ability to learn quickly, enthusiasm, projection and overall performance. Academics All candidates must be accepted to the University of Cincinnati as a full-time student in good academic standing for Fall Quarter 2012. Forms/Paperwork (YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE WITHOUT ALL FORMS) Medical Clearance Form (please note that a physician’s signature is required indicating that you have had a physical within the last 6 months) Proof of insurance (copy of card) Current photo Attire/Appearance We suggest that you wear something form fitting with proper dance shoes. Hair should be pulled back neatly away from your face and makeup should be done as if it were a game or performance.
Audition Process: Registration/Mandatory Clinic (Friday, April 13th 5:30-10pm): Upon arrival, all potential members must turn all completed paperwork, proof of insurance and their current photo. Warm-up will begin promptly at 6pm followed by an overview of the required technical elements as described above. The pom sideline and jazz/hip-hop routine that will be evaluated at the final audition will be taught at this clinic. It is possible that a cut will be made at the end of the night. Interview with the Coaches (Saturday, April 14th 8-11am): Each candidate will have a brief interview with the coaching staff. Final Audition: There will be a brief review of technical elements, pom sideline and routines followed by the final audition. Dancers will perform for the coaching staff and a panel of judges in groups of 3 or 4. At the conclusion of the audition, scores will be calculated and the 2012-2013 team will be chosen and announced. The head coach and coaching staff make the final decision. The final audition is open to the public. If selected as a member, you will be asked to stay for a brief meeting following the announcement. Come be a part of a National and World Champion team!
