(5:23 p.m.): I'm sitting here at home, working on The Odyssey chapter about the 1946 UC team and the guys who had to fight in WWII, and I just got a text message from a UC official saying that Jim Kelly Sr. died today.

I didn't know Jim Sr., very well - I had talked to him about 20 minutes or so at the beginning of football season for the book - but from what I understand, he was a great man and a great player/coach/administrator for UC. I know Jim Jr. pretty well, and I'm really sad for him and his family.

Keep the Kelly's in your thoughts today. Fifty two days after Glenn Sample, UC has lost another one of its greats. Condolences to all.
