April 24, 2014

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati dance team will compete as Team USA at the 2014 International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championship on Tuesday.

The ICU World Championship will take place in Orlando, Florida on April 24 and 25 at the Walt Disney World® Resorts. More than 80 nations are expected to send one team to represent their county in a variety of categories. The dance team portion of the event will include three categories, Freestyle (Pom), Jazz and Hip Hop.

UC will compete in the hip-hop division. The Bearcats are scheduled to hit the floor at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 24. Fans can watch a live stream of the performance here: http://t.co/kNuE58AQdr.

"We are excited to represent the University, the city of Cincinnati and our country at the ICU World Championship," UC head coach Kelsey Hamada Moffe said. "It is such and honor to have been selected as Team USA Dance and we are looking forward to this amazing opportunity."

UC took home first place in the hip-hop category at the College Dance Team National Championships at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando earlier this year. The Bearcats have won five national titles in the last 10 seasons, including back-to-back-to-back national championships from 2004-2006.

UC was selected to represent the United States for the fourth time. In 2009, in the first ICU World Championship, the Bearcats were crowned World Champions in pom, jazz, and hip hop. In 2011, they represented the country again and won a World Championship for team USA in pom and hip hop, while in 2013, UC was also crowned World Champions in the pom category.

"The University of Cincinnati is and established program and have proven them themselves as not only competitors but also ambassadors to their University," Alysia Ulfers, Director of Team USA Dance said. "I'm confident they will positively represent Team USA Dance both on and off the floor. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with the coaches and the athletes as we compete on the global stage."

USA Cheer is the governing body for sport cheering in the United States, and Team USA Dance and Team USA Cheer are the representative National dance and cheer teams.
