OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams suffered dual setbacks against Miami University Friday evening at Nixon Aquatics Center.

The UC men fell to Miami by a count of 181 to 118, while the Redhawks outscored the Cincinnati women 184 to 111.

In the second event of the meet, the UC men’s 200-yard medley relay ‘A’ team of freshman Awse Ma'aya, senior Haywood Miller, junior Roberto Nevarez and senior Matt Hays placed first after finishing in 1 minute, 34.98 seconds.

Individually, Miller paced the Bearcats with two first-place victories in the men’s 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes with time of 58.27 and 2:06.96, respectively.

Awse and Nevarez were Cincinnati’s other individual winners. Awse earned first-place finished in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 51.72 seconds, and Nevarez came out on top in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 50.79.

In the women’s division, Cincinnati was led by freshman Helena Pikhartova, who earned two first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes with marks of 1:03.47 and 2:20.34, respectively.

Senior Liz Hansson added a top finish in the 200-yard freestyle after recording a time of 1:53.24.

Newcomer Ola Kaminska gave the Bearcats a first-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley after earning a mark of 2:09.69. Kaminska was followed by three of her teammates; sophomore Sammie Wheeler (2:10.42), junior Brittany Groene (2:12.52), and junior Victoria Jacumski (2:13.41) placed second, third and fourth.

The UC women finished the meet strong with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The group of Pikhartova, sophomore Weronika Wasiakowska, junior Bailey Laban and Hansson finished first with a mark of 1:37.17.

Cincinnati returns to action when it takes on Louisville and Eastern Michigan beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cincinnati St. Xavier High School’s Keating Natatorium.
