CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams dropped a pair of dual meets to Louisville and Eastern Michigan on Saturday at Cincinnati St. Xavier High School's Keating Natatorium.
The UC women lost to Eastern Michigan 159-139 and fell to Louisville 223-75. The Bearcats men lost to EMU, 218-81, and Louisville, 250-50.
"We didn't' swim as well, top to bottom, as we're capable of," said UC head coach Monty Hopkins. "And that can you make you nervous when you're five weeks out of your conference meet."
With UC's on-campus pool, Keating Aquatic Center, unavailable this week due to emergency lighting issues, the meet was moved to St. Xavier.
"I think some of our guys are a little nervous, but when we get back on campus where we belong, we'll starting seeing progress," said Hopkins.
In the women's division, the Bearcats were led by freshman Helena Pikhartova, senior Liz Hansson and sophomore Werokina Wasiakowska, who each recorded an individual first-place finish.
Pikhartova gave UC its first individual victory of the meet after she placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 3.27 seconds. She later added a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke after finishing in 2:20.91.
Hansson recorded Cincinnati's second individual win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.81 seconds. Hansson also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:05.28.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Wasiakowska produced a time of 51.66 seconds to finish first. She also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.02.
The UC women's 4x50-yard freestyle relay `A' team of Hansson, Wasiakowska, Pikhartova and junior Bailey Laban contributed with a second-place finish after earning a time of 1:35.84.
The Cincinnati men had a rough outing Saturday, recording no individual winners.
Junior Roberto Nevarez recorded the Bearcats' top individual finish in the men's 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 51.93 seconds.
Freshman Awse Ma'aya added a fourth-place showing in the men's 100-yard backstroke after recording a mark of 51.77.
The Bearcats will return to action Jan. 20-21 at the Oakland Quad Meet in Rochester, Mich.
