CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati women's swimming and diving team placed first, while the men finished third following Session 2 of its tri-meet vs. Kenyon College and Oakland (Mich.) University on Saturday at Keating Aquatics Center.
The UC women totaled 591.50 points, followed by Oakland (516.50) and Kenyon (466). The Oakland men placed first overall with 689.50 points, followed by Kenyon (476) and the Bearcats (452.50).
After winning two races on Friday, junior Weronika Wasiakowska added a third first-place showing in the women's 50-yard freestyle when she clocked a mark of 24.01 seconds. Sophomore Helena Pikhartova was right behind Wasiakowska, placing second in 24.28.
As in the 50 free, UC finished No. 1 and No. 2 in the women's 200-yard breaststroke after Pikhartova placed first (2:24.81) and junior Victoria Jacumski (2:25.06) placed second.
Junior Sammie Wheeler earned Cincinnati's first individual win of the day when she placed first in the women's 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:09.94.
Freshman Jessica Piper finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:03.95. She added a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.22) and a third-place in the 200 IM (2:10.50).
One day after winning the 400-yard individual medley, freshman Iuliia Fedoreeva earned 14 second-place points in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.33.
Saturday's session began with the women's 400-yard medley relay, in which Piper, Pikhartova, Fedoreeva and Wasiakowska placed second with a mark of 3:53.51.
The UC women ended the meet placing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay after Wasiakowska, senior Alicia Berman, sophomore Kendra Bierman and senior Bailey Laban clocked a time of 3:32.14.
In the men's division, sophomore Alex Chin earned Cincinnati's highest finish of the day when he placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:41.48.
Junior Joe Scherpenberg and senior Roberto Nevarez placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men's 200-yard breaststroke with marks of 1:56.52 and 1:58.15. Nevarez later added a top-5 mark in the 200-yard butterfly, placing fifth with a time of 1:57.12.
After finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, sophomore Mike Craig placed fourth in the 200 breast Saturday after recording a mark of 2:12.61.
The UC men concluded the two-day meet by earning a third-place showcase in the 400-yard freestyle relay when Nevarez, Scherpenberg, sophomore Mike Kaplan and freshman Tommy Easley recorded a mark of 3:09.93.
Cincinnati will head to Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 26 to compete against Ohio State starting at 1 p.m.
