ROCHESTER, Mich. - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams sit in second place in the women's division and third place in the men's after Friday night, the opening day of the Oakland University Quad Meet at OU Aquatic Center.
The UC women accumulated 294 points after 10 events, which is only behind Oakland's 344 points. The Cincinnati men racked up 151.5 points, good for third place behind Oakland (377) and Kenyon College (223.5).
Cincinnati received its best performance of the day during Event 13, when senior Liz Hansson and sophomore Amanda Hardewig finished first and second in the women's 200-yard backstroke with times of 2 minutes, 6.38 seconds and 2:10.06, respectively.
The female Bearcats added five second-place finishes, including in the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays. The other second-place marks were from Josefin Wede in the 200 individual medley and 200 breastroke, and Weronika Wasiakowska in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the men's division, freshman divers Ryan Slavik and Bill Magill placed first and second in the one-meter diving event.
Senior Haywood Miller earned a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 200 IM (1:57.88) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.44). Sophomore Joe Scherpenberg gave UC an additional fifth-place mark in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.19.
