ROCHESTER, Mich. - The University of Cincinnati women's swimming and diving team placed second and the men finished third after the final day of competition at the Oakland University Quad Meet on Saturday at OU Aquatic Center.
The UC women placed second after scoring 563 points, just behind Oakland's 625. The Cincinnati men finished third with a point-total of 287.5, trailing Oakland's 673 and Kenyon College's 456.5 points.
In the women's division, the 200-yard medley relay team of senior Liz Hansson, freshman Helena Pikhartova, junior Brittany Groene and sophomore Weronika Wasiakowska started the meet with a first-place showing after recording a mark of 1 minute, 47.06 seconds.
Hansson and Wasiakowska placed first and second in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard freestyle. Hansson recorded times of 58.06 and 52.10 seconds, while finished in 58.45 and 52.85 seconds.
Pikhartova gave the Bearcats another first-place mark in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.34.
In the men's division, freshman divers Ryan Slavik and Bill Magill produced solid outings for the second straight day. Slavik finished first in the 3-meter dive and Magill placed third.
Junior Roberto Nevarez placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.55 seconds. Mike Craig later gave UC another fourth-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 59.62 seconds.
The UC swimming and diving teams next compete on Saturday, Jan. 29, when the Bearcats travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on the University of Kentucky Wildcats at 10 a.m.
