Degenstein Finishes 23rd, 28th at NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Georgia  -- University of Cincinnati senior swimming standout Ann Degenstein (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) finished 23rd and 28th, respectively, in the 100 and 200 butterfly events at the 2006 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Gabrielson Natatorium. 


      The BIG EAST champion in each event, Degenstein swam a 54.40 in the 100 preliminaries on Friday afternoon, placing 23rd.  On Saturday, she touched the wall in 2:01.04 in the 200 fly.  Georgia's Mary Descenza, the defending NCAA champion in each, successfully defended her title in both events. 


      Degenstein holds the UC school record in the 100 (53.51) and 200 butterfly (1:58.28).  She went into the championships ranked eighth and seventh, respectively, in her two specialties.
