CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams resume action Friday when the Miami University squads come to Clifton for an evening dual meet at Keating Aquatics Center.
The meet will begin 3 p.m. with diving competition, followed by the swimming events, which are scheduled to start at approximately 5 p.m.
Friday’s meet with mark the second occasion during the 2012-13 season the Bearcats and RedHawks have competed against each other after both programs participated in the Miami Invitational Nov. 29 through Dec. 1, 2012 in Oxford, Ohio.
Based on results from the Miami Invite, Friday’s matchup against Miami could be decided in the evening’s final events. UC posted a pair of school-best third-place finishes in Oxford. The Bearcat men placed third with a point total of 1,508.5, which was one spot ahead of fourth-place Miami’s 1,275. In the women’s bracket, UC’s 1,416.5 points trailed the first-place RedHawks’ 2,753.5.
The highlight of the Miami Invitational for Cincinnati occurred when freshman Jessica Piper, sophomore Helena Pikhartova, freshman Iuliia Fedoreeva and junior Weronika Wasiakowska won the 400-yard medley relay with a school record time of 3 minute, 43.84 seconds. In the men's division, junior Joe Scherpenberg led the Bearcats with five top-10 individual finishes.
Following Friday’s meet, UC has a quick turnaround time as it will travel to Louisville, Ky. to compete Saturday against BIG EAST Conference rival University of Louisville, which is ranked 16th in the men’s division and 17th in the women’s in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll from Dec. 5.
