CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati freshman swimmer Jackie Keire (Ontario, Canada) has been named American Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for her performance last week against No. 13 Louisville and Houston.
Keire won the 200 freestyle against the Cardinals and Cougars, touching the wall in 1:48.49. She also swam the anchor of the 400 freestyle relay in 50.71 to give the Bearcats a first-place finish. As a team, UC fell to the nationally-ranked Cardinals but defeated Houston, 168-130.
It marks the league-leading fourth award of the season for Keire, who owns the fastest times by any conference swimmer in the 100 freestyle (48.52), 200 freestyle (1:45.38) and 500 freestyle (4:41.33). Her times in all three of those events have met the NCAA B-Qualifying standard.
Keire and the Bearcats are back in action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18, when they travel to Kenyon to face Kenyon, Oakland and Ashland. They return to the Keating Aquatics Center for the home finale on Saturday, Jan. 25, versus Wright State.
