CINCINNATI, Ohio - University of Cincinnati swimmers Ann Degenstein (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) and Marcel Kleiner (Heilbronn, Germany/Hohen Staufen Gymnasium) have been named to the Collegiate Sports Information Director's Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV second team.
Degenstein, the BIG EAST champion in the 100 and 200 butterfly, holds the UC school records in both events. The senior held the eighth and ninth-best times nationally in the 100 and 200 fly and qualified for NCAA competition in both. A 3.72 Interior Design student in the challenging DAAP program, Degenstein was named a first-team 2005 Academic All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Kleiner, UC's top freestyler, finished second in the 100 freestyle and third in both the 50 and 200 free at the 2006 BIG EAST Championships, earning three all-conference awards. The sophomore has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of his first two seasons at UC. A marketing major holding a 3.90 GPA, Kleiner was named an honorable mention Academic All-American in 2005 by CSCAA.
District IV consists of all NCAA Division I universities in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. The CoSIDA Academic All-America teams will be announced on June 13 (men) and June 15 (women).
