Schneider Reaches Pair of Championship Finals at US Nationals

CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati student athlete and current UC swimming and diving assistant coach, Josh Schneider, completed three events at the 2014 Phillips 66 National Championship held Aug. 6-10 in Irvine, California.

Schneider competed in the 100-meter freestyle, the 50-meter butterfly and the 50-meter freestyle events, qualifying for two championship final heats and earning two podium finishes.

The best race for Schneider was the 50 free, the event he won at the 2010 NCAA Championship. He finished in fourth place with a time of 21.88, narrowly behind three Olympic gold medalists Anthony Ervin, Nathan Adrian and Cullen Jones and ahead of Olympic gold medalist Matt Grevers who finished half a second behind Schneider.

Schneider also qualified for the championship final of the 50 fly where he finished eighth in the nation with a time of 24.34.

The Cincinnati native placed 19th in the 100 free, touching the wall in 49.55.

Schneider continues to train with his coach, UC head coach Mandy Commons-DiSalle, with an eye on the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
