LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati indoor track and field team had several strong showings in the opening day of the Rod McCravy Invitational. The first day of competition was strictly field events as the teams competed in the pole vault, the weight throw, discus, and triple jump.
In the men's high jump, juniors Ryan Beltz and Brandon Fitch recorded a 1-2 finish for the Bearcats after setting marks of 6' 08 1/4" apiece. Sophomore Mike Foley added a fourth-place showing in the event, registering a height of 6' 06 1/4".
In flight one of the weight throw, senior Lisa Klotz finished in first with a throw of 47' 03 1/2". Her mark helped her finish in 18th place out of 37 competitors in the event.
In the pole vault, freshman Mackenzie Fields continued her strong indoor campaign with a second-place showing. Fields cleared 12' 07 1/2", and fellow freshman Michelle Eby finished in third place after a mark of 12' 01 1/2".
Senior Lane Raney and freshman Zach Schmidt competed in the men's triple jump and recorded marks of 42' 02 3/4" and 41' 08 3/4", respectively. Raney and Schmidt finished in 11th and 12th place.
Senior Ian Jarman threw well in the weight throw among a highly competitive field. Jarman had a mark of 58' 09 1/2", placing sixth out of 32 throwers.
In the men's discus, the senior-sophomore combination of Chad Hanson and Chris Littleton took third and fifth place, respectively, with throws of 158' 11" and 150' 04".
Both teams return to action on Saturday with events beginning at 10 a.m.
