Track Wraps Day One At Hoosier Hills Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati indoor track and field team closed out the first day of action at the Hoosier Hills Invitational inside the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind.

Cameron Gardner qualified for the finals in the 60 meters, clocking 7.89 to take the No. 7 seed. Shanice Smith ran a 8.11 to place 15th overall.

Alyssa Edley ran 25.62 to win heat four and place fourth overall in the 200 meters. Smith clocked 26.13 to place fifth in heat three and grab 11th place overall.

Edley took second place in her 400 meters heat, clocking 59.27 to take ninth overall. Smith also was second in her heat of the 400 meters, clocking 1:00.02 and earning 15th spot.

Cortney Staruch ran 5:17.38 in the mile, placing her 23rd. Bridget Connolly crossed the line in 5:32.90 to place 46th.

Lauren Goodwin ran 10:24.63 in section one of the 3,000 meters, grabbing fifth place overall. Alex Mahle clocked 11:01.77 to place 39th and Ashley Earman was 41st with a time of 11:08.71.

In the field events, Edley tied for sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.25 meters (17-05.25).

Gardner also took third place in the triple jump, leaping 10.81 meters (35-05.75) on her opening attempt of six jumps.

Michelle Eby and Sarah Rasnick tied for second place in the pole vault, both clearning 3.80 meters (12-05.50). Emily Clay took sixth place with her height of 3.60 meters (11-09.75).

Mekayla Breland threw 13.70 meters (44-11.50) on her final preliminary effort in the weight throw, placing fourth in flight one and taking 17th place overall. Bridget McNeill had a best throw of 11.93 meters (39-01.75) on her opening attempt, placing 14th in flight two and 27th overall.

Breland also competed in the shot put, tossing 11.58 meters (38-00.00) on her third attempt to finish 14th overall.
