Track & Field Gets A Pair Of Event Wins On Day Two of the Jesse Owens Track Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati track and field team wrapped up action Saturday at the 27th Jesse Owens Track Classic Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

UC picked up event wins from Kathy Klump (800 meters) and Mackenzie Fields (pole vault) on the day.

Shanay Portis placed sixth in the 100 meters, crossing the line in 11.91. Cameron Gardner was 18th in 12.37, Alyssa Edley was 22nd in 12.56 and Shanice Smith clocked 12.68 to place 24th.

Darius Howard was 16th in the men's race with a time of 11.43.

Smith also took 16th in the 200 meters, clocking 26.33.

Darnell Gilbert was sixth in the men's 200, crossing the line in 22.31. Howard took 16th place with an effort of 24.11.

UC assistant Mary Wineberg won the women's 400 meters with a time of 53.02. Jalisa Jarrett took 17th place with a run of 57.57. Aricka Rhodes placed 19th with her run of 57.82.

Gilbert was second in the 400 meters with his run of 47.82.

Klump won the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:09.36. Jenna Heaton finished in seventh after running a 2:13.37 clocking. Kaitlyn Good was 10th with a effort of 2:13.72 and Katie Honigford took 24th with a 2:18.70.

Michael Rutherford was the top UC finisher in the men's 800 meters with a 11th-place finish in 1:53.45. Ryan Wynn came home 16th in 1:54.38, Tony Williamson was 20th in 1:54.65, Brian Barney took 26th with a 1:55.32, Zachary Fields finished 29th in 1:56.41 and Kyle Neyer placed 32nd in 1:57.31.



Danheisha Harding placed 11th in the 100 hurdles, crossing the line in 14.22 and Brianna Patton came in 23rd with her time of 16.91.

Bryan Cain took sixth in the men's 110 hurdles with a time of 14.54. Dailyn Moore was 12th with a best effort of 15.18 and Mario Cannon placed 14th in 15.36.

Harding won her 400-meters hurdle heat in 1:04.42 and earned a seventh-place finish overall. Gabby Calderone took ninth place with a time of 1:05.15.

Cain crossed the line in 55.38 to take sixth place in the men's 400 hurdles. Steven Mitchell was 11th with a time of 59.94.

The women's 4x100 relay team of Morgan Gordon, Portis, Gardner and Alyssa Edley covered the course in 46.44 to place fourth.

The men's 4x100 quartet of Cannon, Dylan Bourelle, Howard and Gilbert took third with a run of 42.48.

The 4x400 foursome of Portis, Jarrett, Rhodes and Klump clocked a 3:45.55 to earn a third-place finish. The 'B' group of Good, Edley, Jasmine Cotten and Heaton timed in at 4:01.31 to take sixth.

The men's 4x400 race featured Williamson, Rutherford, Neyer and Wynn took fourth with a time of 3:31.96.

Kaitlyn Good was 11th in the women's high jump after her clearance of 1.55m (5-01.00).

Fields cleared 4.00m (13-01.50) to win the pole vault with a season-best mark. Sarah Rasnick leapt 3.85m (12-07.50) to place fourth. Emily Clay was 13th with a best effort of 3.55m (11-07.75).

Kyle Kubera was 10th in the men's event, leaping 4.60m (15-01.00).

Michael Nwankwo placed second in the men's triple jump after leaping 13.92m (45-08.00).

Frida Akerstrom was sixth in the women's shot put with a toss of 14.99m (49-02.25) while Mekayla Breland won flight two of the event and finished 12th overall with a throw of 13.26m (43-06.00).

Chris Littleton took 13th in the shot put with his best effort of 15.54m (51-00.00).

Akerstrom was also 17th in the women's hammer throw, finishing with a best throw of 49.78m (163-04).

Jake Haseman was 13th in the men's hammer throw with a heave of 53.65m (176-00).

The Bearcats return to action next weekend at the All-Ohio Championships. The meet will take place in Oxford, Ohio on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21.
