CINCINNATI – Michelle Eby (pole vault) and Kathy Klump (800 meters) punched their tickets for Drake Stadium Friday, qualifying for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championship after strong performances at the NCAA East Preliminary at Hodges Field in Jacksonville, Fla.

The 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place inside Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on June 6-9, 2012.

With the qualification of Eby and Klump, UC has four student-athletes advancing to the national meet. True freshman Emelie Larsson qualified Thursday in the javelin throw and heptathlete Jasmine Cotten advanced automatically to the finals in Drake Stadium.

Klump finished third in the 800 meter quarterfinal, clocking 2:05.05, the fifth-best time of the day. She was near the back of the field early in her heat after being tripped up. She moved towards the front and ran into a qualifying spot in the final straightaway. Klump was the 2012 BIG EAST Indoor Champion and a USTFCCCA All-American in the 800 earlier this season.

Eby was 11th in the preliminary round, clearing 4.05m (13-03.50). Her best outdoor clearance of the season is 4.18m (13-08.50) which occurred at the UC Early Bird Relays on March 17. Eby was the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Champion in the pole vault. Entering the NCAA meet, she had finished in the Top-3 in each of her eight meets this season.

Mackenzie Fields placed 17th in the event. She cleared 3.95m (12-11.50).

Mary Bridges just missed qualifying for Des Moines after finishing 13th in the women's discus competition. Bridges threw 48.88m (160-04), below her season-best toss of 50.66m (166-02), set at the All-Ohio Championships. Jessica Molyet came home in 32nd after a best effort of 43.93m (144-01) in the prelims.

Dailyn Moore placed 29th in the men's 110 hurdles, clocking a season-best 14.06 in his heat. He missed out advancing to the next round by two hundredths of a second.

In the women's 100 hurdles, Danheisha Harding ran 13.79, a personal best, to finish 41st in the preliminaries.

Shanay Portis clocked 24.59 in the women's 200 meter prelims to place 41st overall. She will close out a busy meet by running a leg on UC's 4x400 relay team Saturday with Jalisa Jarrett, Aricka Rhodes and Klump.

Saturday will also feature Josh Dangel in the men's pole vault and Chris Littleton in the men's shot put.
