The University of Cincinnati indoor track & field team wrapped up competition in Indiana Universtiy’s Gladstein Invitational Saturday after two days of impressive results. In a meet that featured some of the region’s top teams, the Bearcats came away with a pair of event wins and plenty of other solid performances.

On Friday, Kenya Woodall won the 400 meters and Erika Hurd had a career best leap of 5’ 9.25” to win the high jump to highlight the Bearcats’ opening day results. Saturday’s best finisher would be Shanay Portis’s fourth-place in the 200 meters invitational (24.99). Portis also ran the lead leg in the 4x400-meters relay, which finished fourth in 3:52.00, and was seventh in the 60 meters (7.76).

Monica Phillips was sixth in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 58’ 2.25”, bettering her previous PR by an inch.

UC’s 4x800-meters relay team of Hannah Christ, Kelsey Mueller, April McPhersom and Kaitlyn Good finished sixth in 9:28.97.

The Bearcats qualified three – Danheisha Harding, Javette Lee and Je’Rica Sanders - on Friday for the 60-meters hurdles finals. In Saturday’s finals, Harding was fifth (8.87), Lee sixth (8.88)O and Sanders eighth (8.98).

The meet also featured a 400 meters invitational, which was won by UC alum Mary Wineberg in 52.91, just missing the meet record by under seven-tenths of a second. Woodall won her race in a time of 56.70, which would have been good for fourth place in the invitational.

UC also sent a few men’s competitors to the Gladstein. The men’s indoor team will return next season and several from this year’s outdoor team are competing in selected events. The 4x800m relay of Brian Barney, Kyle Neyer, Cameron Rohmann and Tony Williamson placed third in 7:52.92. The Bearcats also had a pair of entries in the long jump with Tariq Sanders finishing fourth (22' 5.25") and Kyle Donthnier, seventh (22' 2.5").

The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday and Saturday next week at the University of Kentucky’s Rod McCravy Invitational.
