The University of Cincinnati women’s track & field program has signed seven student-athletes for its 2014 class, head coach Susan Seaton announced on Tuesday.

The class is targeted towards the field events and features five Ohio natives, one Indiana athlete and one Swedish signee. Seaton expects the new additions to add depth and contribute immediately.

“We are extremely excited about these signess,” said Seaton. “We look forward to having them join the team and competing next season. The most exciting thing is that they are not only good athletes but also very strong academically. We look forward to watching them excel as true student-athletes. These seven are a great start to our 2014 recruiting class, however, we look to add a few more signees to this outstanding class."

Rebecka Abrahamsson
Karlshamn, Sweden | Karlshamn | Jumps
Abrahamsson is a talented jumper from Karlshamn, Sweden. She has consistently jumped over 40 feet in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 41’ 11.5”, which would surpass UC’s indoor and outdoor records. The European also competes in the long jump and has a career-best jump of 18’ 8”.

Loretta Blaut
Cincinnati, Ohio | Seton | Jumps
Blaut is one of the nation’s top high jumpers in the 2014 recruiting class. She won the Ohio D1 State Championships last spring and ranked as the second-best jumper in the state and seventh nationally among juniors. Blaut has a personal-best clearance of 5’ 9”.

Annette Echikunwoke
Pickerington, Ohio | Pickerington North | Throws
Echikunwoke is one of the nation’s best shot putters in the 2014 signing class. Last season, she came in third at the Ohio D1 State Championships. Her personal-best toss of 44’ 9.75” ranked her eighth overall in the state of Ohio and 23rd among juniors. She also competes in discus and has a personal-best throw of 131’ 9”.

Alexis Gray
Solon, Ohio | Solon | Throws
Gray has been one of the nation’s best throwers in both shot put and discus. She is a two-time state qualifier in each event and finished top five in both events last spring. Gray finished fourth in the discus at the Ohio D1 State Championships in 2013 and third in 2012. Her personal-best throw of 148’ 1” had her ranked fifth in the state and 18th nationally among the 2014 class. Gray finished fifth in the shot put at the state meet last year and 11th the previous season.

Leah Heckaman
Plymouth, Ind. | Culver Academies | Throws
Heckaman is one of the best throwers in the state of Indiana. She is a three-time state qualifier in the discus and two-time in shot put. Last season, she finished fifth at state in the discus and 10th in the shot put. Her personal-best toss of 135’ 10” in the discus ranked her fifth overall in Indiana, and her throw of 42’ 2” in the shot put ranked her 11th across the nation. She is also a two-time indoor and outdoor national qualifier.

Kellsa Mbah
West Chester, Ohio | Lakota East | Jumps
Mbah has been one of the state’s top long jumpers. She has a personal-best leap of 19’ 7.25”, which would put her just inches behind the UC school indoor and outdoor records. Last season, she was ranked the seventh-best jumper in Ohio and the eighth nationally among juniors.

Meg Westerheide
Fort Loramie, Ohio | Fort Loramie | Mid-Distance
Westerheide has been one of the top mid-distance runners in the state of Ohio. She has qualified the last two seasons in the 800-meter run and recorded top-five finishes each year. Last season, she was the 800m runner-up in the Ohio D3 State Championships. She had a personal-best time of 2:14 in 2013, which ranked her 16th across all classes in the state. In 2012, she doubled up with the 800m and mile, which she placed fourth in both events.  Westerheide has also excelled in cross country as she has ran at state the last three seasons and finished top 25 each year. She garnered her top finish this past season by crossing 15th.
