Feb. 16, 2013
UC hurdlers were the surprise of the day at the BIG EAST Conference women's indoor track & field championship Saturday. Je'Rica Sanders, Javette Lee and DanHeisha Harding posted blazing fast times in the 60-meters hurdles-preliminaries to give UC three of the nine spots in Sunday's final.
The conference championship meet, which is being held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, will be completed with a full day of finals on Sunday. Only five finals were held on Saturday and the Bearcats are in ninth place in the team standings with four points.
Sanders shaved almost a tenth of a second off her previous fastest time this season, finishing in 8.63. Lee also posted her season-best time with an 8.69. Sanders and Lee both claimed their spots in the final by finishing in the top two in their heat. Harding had to get in on time and her 8.71 just edged her in on the final spot.
In addition to the hurdlers, Kenya Woodall won her heat in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 55.51 to earn a spot in Sunday's final.
