American Athletic Conference release (link)
CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati junior high jump specialist Loretta Blaut has been named this week’s American Athletic Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Blaut recently competed in the high jump at the Buckeye Tune-Up in Columbus, Ohio, last Friday afternoon and cleared 1.73m (5-08.00) to win the event and improve her season best. That clearance also stands as the top mark in the conference heading into the league meet as she leads the rest of the field by one inch. Blaut will look to capture her first conference crown this weekend in Alabama and keep the title in Cincinnati for the fourth year in a row.
While this is Blaut’s first honor of the season, it marks the eighth total accolade earned by the Bearcats in 2017 and the fifth earned by the women. Joining Blaut as honorees in 2017 are Bryana Robinson (women’s track athlete of the week), Annette Echikunwoke (three times named women’s field athlete of the week), Alex Bloom (men’s field athlete of the week) and Adrian Valles (two times named men’s field athlete of the week).
The awards this week are the final batch for the indoor season as the 2017 American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships will be contested Friday and Saturday. The meet will be held inside the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala., and will be streamed live on the American Digital Network starting at 10 a.m. ET (9 a.m. on site) at TheAmerican.org/watch.
