The University of Cincinnati men's track & field/cross country programs have announced the signing of eight student-athletes for the 2014-15 seasons.

"I am very excited about my first recruiting class," said men's track & field/cross country head coach Kris Mack. "Our coaches did a great job searching and finding those individuals that fit the Bearcat tradition of excellence. We also expanded our recruiting territory and found success overseas. While this year's team has laid the foundation, I will look to these newcomers to help build the nationally ranked program that I envision."

The Bearcats' 2014 class features not only the top talent across the United States but also elite European athletes with two from Spain. Mack hopes to ink a few more recruits in the coming weeks.

Alex Bloom
Seymour, Wis. | Seymour | Jumps/Multi-Events
Bloom is one of the top high jumpers in Wisconsin. He is a two-time state champion in high jump and has a personal-best mark of 6' 9". He also qualified for state this past season in the long jump and pole vault finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Mack on Bloom
"Alex has the build to become a great decathlete and also continue excelling in the high jump. He will have an immediate impact at the conference level and will soon be an NCAA finalist."

Spencer Clark
West Des Moines, Iowa | Dowling Catholic | Distance
Clark comes to UC after being one of the top distance runners in the Midwest. He has qualified for the Iowa State Cross Country Championships three times and has placed top 10 the last two years, including a runner-up finish in 2013. In 2012, he ran a personal-best time of 15:21 and qualified for Nike Cross Nationals after taking third at the Heartland Regional.

Mack on Clark
"Spencer is a great fit for our cross country and track programs. He will help us build on our runner-up finish at the conference cross country championships this past fall. He will make huge strides under Coach Burroughs, and I look to him to fill the void of Evan Baum. He is also a Cincinnatus Academic Award winner."

Antonio Conte
Chagrin Falls, Ohio | Chagrin Falls | Jumps
Conte is one of the top high jumpers in Ohio with a personal-best clearance of 6' 9". He is a two-time District Champion in the high jump and has finished third the last two years at the Regional Championships. Last year, he finished second in the high jump at the Ohio State Indoor Championships and seventh at the Ohio State Outdoor Championships. Just this past weekend, he won the high jump at the Ohio Indoor State Championships.

Mack on Conte
"Antonio is a very passionate jumper and will add depth to our growing high jump group. He will have immediate impact at the conference level and will look to crack the seven-foot barrier this year."

Dan Huben
Clarence, N.Y. | Clarence | Distance
Huben is a distance runner from New York that specializes in the steeplechase. He is the fourth ranked returning 3,000-meter steeplechase runner in the country. This past summer, he finished fifth at the USA Junior Outdoor Championships. Along with qualifying for the New York State Championships in the steeplechase, he has qualified in the 3,200-meter run twice outdoors and once indoors. Huben also excels in cross country. This past fall he claimed 13th at the New York State Championships and qualified for the Nike Cross New York Regional.

Mack on Huben
"Dan will continue our tradition of great steeplechasing and will be a great asset for cross country as well. He is also a Cincinnatus Academic Award winner. I am really excited to watch him progress over four years."

Jaashir Morris
Edison, N.J. | JP Stevens | Hurdles
Morris is one of the top hurdlers on the East Coast. He is a two-time New Jersey State Meet of Champions qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles and a two-time Greater Middlesex Conference Champion in the same event. He has a personal-best time of 54.93 in the 400-meter hurdles.

Mack on Morris
"Jaashir is a raw talent in the 400-meter hurdles. His passion and determination will allow him to rise to the Top 10 of our record books."

Alexious Sherman
Carroll, Ohio | Bloom-Carroll | Hurdles
Sherman is of the top hurdlers in Ohio. This past year, he finished fifth at the Ohio State Outdoor Championships in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.50. He is a two-time District Champion and two-time Mid-State League Champion with a title coming in both the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.

Mack on Sherman
"Alexious will add to our depth in the hurdles and looks to continue our great tradition. He also has range and can do both hurdle distances for us. He is from Ohio and excited to wear the C-Paw on his chest."

Adrian Valles
Pamplona, Spain | Spanish National Team | Pole Vault
Valles is considered one of the best junior pole vaulters in Spain. This past year at the U-18 Spanish National Championships he won the pole vault with a personal-best height of 16' 9", which would rank him top 10 in UC school history.

Mack on Valles
"Adrian is a very talented pole vaulter, and he will have an immediate impact for our team replacing All-American Josh Dangel. Adrian has had many great attempts at 17 feet already this indoor season, and I look forward to him continuing the great tradition of vaulting here at UC."

Sergio Acera Villaneuva
Barcelona, Spain/Spanish National Team | Jumps

Sergio is currently ranked as the top long jumper in Spain. He is a member of the Spanish National Team and has competed a number of times on the international stage. He is a two-time Spanish National Junior Champion in the long jump. This past summer he won the long jump with a personal-best leap of 25' 1", which would rank him top 10 in UC history. He also took seventh at the European U-18 Championships.

Mack on Acera Villaneuva:
"Sergio is a great addition to the Bearcat Family and will have an immediate impact at the conference and national level. He has a lot of national team experience and has jumped well at big meets already."
