CINCINNATI - The American Athletic Conference released the names of its weekly award winners for track and field with University of Cincinnati senior Macklin Tudor being tabbed as the men’s field athlete of the week following his victories of the shot put and discus over the weekend at the 2017 Oliver Nikoloff Open, the program’s first of two home meets this season.

The honor is the first for the outdoor season for the Bearcats and the fourth total earned by the men this year after Adrian Valles (twice) and Alex Bloom (once) both earned field event honors during the indoor campaign. Add in the five awards earned by the women indoors, which included Bryana Robinson winning the track honor (once) and both Annette Echikunwoke (three times) and Loretta Blaut (once) earning field event honors, and the Bearcats have now secured nine total weekly accolades from the league.

At the home meet, Tudor opened his outdoor season with a big toss in the discus, taking the title with a mark of 58.73m (192-08), a mark that currently leads the American, ranks third in the NCAA East Region and sixth nationally. He followed that up with a heave of 17.65m (57-11.00) to win the shot put, a mark that currently ranks him third in the conference standings.

Tudor and the Bearcats are back in action this weekend as they will hit the road for Auburn, Ala., and the Tiger Track Classic this Friday and Saturday. Prior to that, on Wednesday and Thursday, Bloom will be in action at the Bulldog Decathlon-Heptathlon in Athens, Ga., as he will compete with some of the nation’s best in the 10-event competition hosted by Georgia.
