Tudor Grabs Weekly Honor from American for Second Week in a Row
April 11, 2017

CINCINNATI - For the second week in a row, Macklin Tudor has been selected as the American Athletic Conference men’s field athlete of the week, the league announced Tuesday. The University of Cincinnati senior recently broke his own school records in both the discus and shot put competitions at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., over the weekend.

Tudor, who capture the same honor one week ago after posting one of the top discus marks in the nation, improved upon his marks and placed himself higher on the national, regional and conference lists. Tudor first broke his discus record as he tossed the platter out to 61.74m (202-07), better the record by 1’ 1” in the process while winning the event at Auburn. He came back later in the day and competed in the shot put where he placed second in the meet with a best of 18.77m (61-07.00) to improve his school record by 2’ 2.5” overall.

With those marks, Tudor now ranks highly on all three lists in both events. In the discus, he currently leads the American by 12’ and stands second among all throwers on both the NCAA national and NCAA East Region descending order lists. For the shot put, his big career improvement pushed him up to second overall in the American while standing eighth in the NCAA East Region and 15th nationally.

Tudor’s honor is the second of the outdoor season for the Bearcats and the 10th received all year for the program when including the men’s and women’s awards won during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He also is now one of three Bearcats to be honored by the conference with a weekly award more than once this season after Annette Echikunwoke was honored as the women’s field athlete of the week three times during the indoor season while Adrian Valles was tabbed for the men’s indoor honor twice this season.

Next up for Tudor and the Bearcats will be the 2017 All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will be held Friday and Saturday at Gettler Stadium in Cincinnati. The annual state bragging-rights meet will feature entrants from 13 different schools from around much of Ohio.
