CINCINNATI - The American Athletic Conference has announced its weekly award winners for track and field with University of Cincinnati senior Macklin Tudor garnering male field athlete of the week honors for the third week in a row, the league announced Tuesday. Tudor, who swept the shot put and discus events at the 2017 All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend, remained undefeated in the discus on the outdoor season after winning his third meet in a row.
Tudor captured the discus title with a toss of 59.34m (194-08), marking the second time in his career that he has won the event at the All-Ohio event (2014). This time, his throw broke the previous meet record of 58.01m (190-04), bettering the 2004 mark of John Schulte (Ashland) by over 4’. After that event, Tudor followed with a victory in the shot put as he heaved the ball out to 18.18m (59-07.75) for his second in the event this year. All told, Tudor tallied 20 points for the Bearcats as they placed second as a team at the All-Ohio meet.
Tudor still ranks highly on all three order lists with marks he threw last week, including being one of top individuals in the nation in the discus. His school-record mark of 61.74m currently leads the American Athletic Conference by 22’ and sits second overall in both the NCAA East Region and the NCAA. In the shot put, his UC record-toss of 18.77m sits second in the American and ties him for eighth in the region while tying him for 16th nationally.
Tudor’s honor is the third of the outdoor season for the Bearcats and the 11th received all year for the program when including the men’s and women’s awards won during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He also is now one of three Bearcats to be honored by the conference with a weekly award more than once this season after Annette Echikunwoke was honored as the women’s field athlete of the week three times during the indoor season while Adrian Valles was tabbed for the men’s indoor honor twice this season.
Next up, the Bearcats will travel to Columbus for the Jesse Owens Track Classic this Friday and Saturday. The meet will take place at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the Ohio State campus.
