CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - A small group of University of Cincinnati track and field student-athletes were in relay action at the Virginia Challenge, Saturday at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va.
The UC 4x400 relay quartet of Shanay Portis, Jalisa Jarrett, Aricka Rhodes and Kathy Klump won its race in 3:38.38, outdistancing the field by nearly four seconds. The squad entered the meet with a best time of 3:40.57, which ranked 53rd on the NCAA East Descending Order List. Their effort Saturday moved them into 25th place on the chart.
UC assistant Mary Wineberg won the 200 meters with her 23.85 clocking. Wineberg is working towards a potential return to the U.S. squad for 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, England.
The Bearcats will return to Cincinnati and await the NCAA's release of the qualifying lists containing the Top-48 declarations for the NCAA East Preliminary Round Meet. The meet is set to run May 24-26 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
