Five UC Track and Field Student-Athletes Competing in Nationals|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track and field teams have five student-athletes competing at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The meet, hosted by Greater Des Moines and Drake University, will take place at Drake Stadium, which hosted the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2010. The meet serves as the selection event to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships August 10-18 in Moscow, Russia.
On the men’s side, senior Terrence Somerville is set to compete Saturday, June 22 at 3:10 p.m. in the first round of the 110-meter hurdles. Just before the NCAA Championships, Somerville was named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year. He also set the school record at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 13.41 and followed this performance by breaking his own record, speeding to a 13.37 finish in the NCAA East Preliminary.
Four freshmen on the women’s team will also compete in the U.S Junior Championships June 19-23. The top finishers will represent Team USA in Medellin, Columbia August 23-25.
In the field events, Alyssa McBride will compete in the pole vault, while Erika Hurd will battle in the high jump. McBride had a personal best vault of 4.00 meters at the All Ohio Championships and placed third at the meet. Hurd also had a successful outdoor season, placing first at the University of South Florida Collegiate Invitational with a personal best jump of 1.78 meters.
In the track events, Kenya Woodall will race in the 400-meter dash, while Javette Lee will compete in the 100-meter hurdles. Woodall set her personal best at the UCF in the 400 at the University of Central Florida Invitational with a time 54.71. Lee's 110-meter hurdles time of 13.97 at the Louisville Twighlight marked personal best.
