CINCINNATI - Olympic gold medalist Mary (Danner) Wineberg, basketball consensus all-American Steve Logan, men's soccer's first all-American Andrew Kean, and football and men's basketball standout Brad Jackson have been selected for induction as the Class of 2010 into the James P. Kelly, Sr. University of Cincinnati Athletics Hall of Fame.

The enshrinement will take place as part of the annual Legion of Excellence gala, tentatively scheduled for February, 2010. The specific date will be set in conjunction with a home basketball weekend once the schedule is released later this summer. The Legion of Excellence will also include the recognition of the top student-athletes from each UC sport, as well as the bestowing of the Order of the Black Blazer and Strubbe Distinguished Service Award.

"Our 2010 inductees - Mary, Steve, Andrew, and Brad - each distinguished themselves as Bearcats and I am proud to welcome them back to campus for the Legion of Excellence event this coming February," said Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. "This event, more than any other, recognizes the best of Cincinnati Athletics and it is always a pleasure to be in the presence of ladies and gentlemen who have given so much to our University."

Mary (Danner) Wineberg (women's track and field, 1998-2002) won an Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, becoming the fourth former UC student-athlete to accomplish such a feat. Wineberg's gold came as a member of the USA 4x400 meter relay team, which posted a winning time of 3:18.54 on the world's greatest stage. Wineberg qualified for the Olympic team with a runner-up finish at the 2008 US Olympic Trials in the 400 meters. She finished the 2007 and 2008 track and field seasons ranked in the Top 10 in the world in her event. The UC record holder in the outdoor 400 meters, she was runner-up at the 2002 Conference USA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

"I am extremely honored and excited to be inducted into the James P. Kelly, Sr. Athletics Hall of Fame. The University has done a great job of supporting all my endeavors and I look forward to being around for a while as a positive role model to all," said Wineberg. "This was a huge surprise and I will cherish the moment forever! I look forward to being included among all the greats from all eras of UC history."

One of UC's most decorated student-athletes, Steve Logan (men's basketball, 1998-2002) was a consensus first-team all-America selection in 2001-02 and earned FOXSports.com and CNN/SI.com National Player of the Year accolades that season. A back-to-back Conference USA Player of the Year, Logan was the recipient of the 2002 Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award as the nation's top player six-foot tall or under and finished his career as the school's second-leading all-time scorer (1,985 points). He was a second-round pick of the Golden State Warriors in the 2002 NBA Draft and has played professionally in Poland and Israel.

"First of all, I want to give thanks to God Almighty. Without him none of this is possible," Logan said. "It is an honor to be inducted into the University of Cincinnati Hall of Fame. This acknowledgement is special to me and my family. I would like to thank coach Bob Huggins and the university for believing in me."

Kean (men's soccer, 1997-2001) earned UC's first all-America honors in men's soccer, being named to the 1998 and 1999 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America team, leading UC to its first NCAA Tournament in 1998. Kean, a native of Scotland, earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1999 and all-region accolades in 1998 and 1999. He was named to the C-USA all-Freshman squad in 1997 and twice earned all-Ohio plaudits, garnering Ohio Player of the Year mention in 1999.

"As a young lad from Scotland, being given the opportunity to attend the University of Cincinnati and play for the men's soccer program was an unbelievable experience and I am thankful for every minute that was afforded for me to do so," Kean commented. "It is such an honor to be included alongside so many wonderfully gifted athletes and coaches, and I am conscious that my inclusion highlights an era for the UC men's soccer program that was blessed with so much talent on the field as well as the coaching staff off it. The foundations that were built by the team during my time at UC are long gone and the men's soccer program is today established amongst the very elite of the nation - with the bar being risen to new heights under the leadership of Coach Dayes and his staff. Being inducted to the Hall of Fame will be one the best days of both my soccer and professional career, if not my life. That, as well as pulling-on the famous `C-Paw' jersey for the first time, are both occasions that will stay with me forever."

Jackson (football, 1994-97; men's basketball, 1995-98), a four-year letterwinner at linebacker, played six seasons in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl ring with the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XXXV. Drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft, Jackson ranks in the Top 10 in school history in total tackles, solo tackles, and assisted tackles. He was a three-time all-Conference USA selection, earning first-team honors in 1995 and 1997. He also played basketball under then-head coach Bob Huggins.

"The single greatest honor I have received to date is being voted into the UC Athletics Hall of Fame, which is named after the greatest Bearcats of all time, Mr. Kelly, who treated me and so many other athletes at Cincinnati like one of his own sons," Jackson said. "I am completely humbled at this honor, and that I will join so many great Bearcats athletes that are already there. It shows what perseverance, toughness, hard work, dedication, and team work brings. There is no way I could have had the success I had without the help of those in the Department of Athletics, athletic trainer Bill Walker, strength coach Mick Marotti, my coaches, Rick Minter, Bob Huggins and Mick Cronin, Tim Rose, Rex Ryan and Don Martindale who impacted my life and made me better as a player and person, and of course all of my teammates."

Brad Jackson - Football (1994-97) & Men's Basketball (95-98)
Jackson was a four-year letterwinner for the Bearcats at linebacker ... went on to play six seasons in the National Football League (NFL) ... was a co-winner of the Claude Rost Most Valuable Player Award in 1997, and also earned First-Team all-Conference USA honors in both 1995 and 1997 ... was a second-team all-C-USA honoree in 1996 ... part of a 1997 Bearcats defense that holds the school record for fewest opponent rushing attempts with 338, and ranks third for fewest opponent rushing yards (930) ... played on the 1997 Humanitarian Bowl squad that broke a 47-year UC bowl drought, knocking off Utah State, 35-19 ... following his senior campaign, he was selected to play in the 1997 Senior Bowl ... ranks third all-time on the UC career tackles chart with 392 ... his 1997 total of 168 tackles led C-USA and ranks second all time at UC ... his 93 solos tackles in 1997 tied for the third-best mark all time ... posted 15 or more tackles in six game in 1997 ... recorded a single-game best of 23 tackles against Boston College (1997), the second highest single-game output in program history ... also ranks on the UC career charts in solo tackles (216/third), assisted tackles (176/fourth), tackles for a loss (32.0/t-10th), and quarterback sacks (13.0/t-10th) ... also played basketball for the Bearcats under then head coach Bob Huggins ... was drafted in the third round, 79th overall in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. He went on to play six seasons for the Baltimore Ravens (1999-2001), and Carolina Panthers ... won a Super Bowl ring with the Ravens at Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, Fla. on Jan. 28, 2001.
