The University of Cincinnati cross country teams will be back in action this weekend, competing in the Queen City Invitational at A.J. Jolly Park in Alexandria, Ky.
The men's 5,000-meter race will start at 5 p.m. with the women's event scheduled for a 5:45 p.m. start.
In addition to the overall team and individual events, UC, Northern Kentucky and Xavier compete for a traveling cup based on the lowest combined men's and women's overall score.
Along with NKU and XU, UC will run against Asbury, Bellarmine, Campbellsville, Cincinnati Christian, Cumberlands, Eastern Kentucky, Lindsey Wilson, Mt. St. Joseph, Thomas More, Transylvania, Union and Wright State.
The UC women won the event a year ago for the fifth time in six years, placing four runners in the Top-10 while Eric Finan (New Richmond, Ohio/New Richmond) won the men's race for the second-straight year and helped lead the Bearcats to a second-place finish. The men's team has won eight of the last 10 Queen City Invitationals.
UC opened the season on Sept. 2 by winning the men's and women's two-person team relays and the men's team event at the VMI Relays.
In the team scoring, consisting of each school's Top-3 relay teams, the men's squad took the top spot with six points while the women's team was second in their race, just two points out of the top spot.
In the men's race, the Bearcats swept the Top-3 spots and placed all of their teams in the Top-20.
UC's duo of Tyler Ross (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and Finan was the only one to break the 40-minute mark, crossing the line in 39:49:00 to earn the overall win.
On the women's side, the UC duo of Kaitlyn Meyer (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and Alison Zukowski (Mentor/St. Mark's) broke the tape in 36:40:00 for the win, leading three UC duos in the Top-10.
