The University of Cincinnati cross country programs look to make a statement this weekend as they race for the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships in Madison, Conn. The meet, which takes place at Hammonasset Beach State Park, begins on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the men's 8K, and the women's 6K is slated to start at 11:50 a.m.

Both races and the post-event awards ceremony will be streamed live on TheAmerican.org. The winning teams and runner-ups will receive recognition, while the top 15 individual finishers in both races will receive All-Conference honors.

Evan Baum leads the men's team into the weekend. The senior has been UC's top finisher in every meet this season, which includes two top10 finishes. He is coming off a personal-best 8K time of 24:49.00.

Kevin Fink, Greg Sanders and Anthony Car are also coming off personal-best times from the Pre-Nationals Meet.

Louisville enters the weekend as the favorite, according to the league office. The Cardinals are sitting at seventh in the Southeast Region and are coming off a 28th place finish at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. Tyler Byrne is the top runner for Louisville, and he has finished top 20 in ever meet this season.

Ashley Earman paces the women's team. The junior has finished top 25 twice this season and is coming off a personal-best 6K time of 22:39.95. Four other UC runners also posted record times at the Pre-Nationals Meet.

The conference names SMU the favorite on the women's side. The Mustangs, who won the Conference USA Championship last fall, are ranked fourth in the South Central Region. They are coming off an 18th-place finish at the Pre-Nationals Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
