CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati men’s and women’s cross country team’s travel to Bloomington, Ind. to participate in the 2009 NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, Nov. 14. The races will be hosted by Indiana University and will be run at the Indiana University Cross Country Course.
Last season the women’s and men’s teams finished in 12th and 13th place, respectively. Looking to improve on an impressive showing in the race a season ago is Lilian Jelimo. Last year, Jelimo paced the women’s team by crossing the finish line in 18th place with a time of 21:48.7. That time ranked her fifth among sophomore competitors last year.
Recently the Bearcats competed in the BIG EAST Championships on Oct. 31. There, the men’s and women’s teams finished eighth- and ninth-place, respectively.
Sophomore Eric Finan paced the men’s team with a 24th place finish, while junior David Barry finished in 41st place.
Senior Jocelyn McCauley led the women’s team with a 34th place finish. Separated by just four seconds were senior Tamara Masters and Jelimo, and the duo finished in 46th and 48th place, respectively.
The Indiana University Cross Country Course has hosted four NCAA Championships, and eight combined men’s and women’s Big Ten Championships. The four NCAA Championships hosted are the most of any school since 1974. The course is noted as being optimal for competitors and fan-friendly for the spectators.
The men’s race begins at noon, while the women’s race will begin at approximately 1:15, on Saturday, Nov. 14.
