Howie Kurnich

  • One of the toughest and most productive to play the middle guard position on the defensive line.
  • Led team in tackling in each of his final two seasons.
  • Amassed 308 total tackles.
  • Served as team captain or co-captain for each of his final three seasons, the only player to do so in the 20th and 21st centuries.
  • Recipient of the John Pease Award as the most outstanding lineman in 1977 and 1978.
  • Garnered the Claude Rost Award as the team MVP in 1978.
  • Reserve lineman with the Cincinnati Bengals.
  • UC Athletic Hall of Fame 1996.
