While he completes his degree, Jamell Cervantez will serve as the undergraduate student assistant for UC in 2011-2012. Cervantez had his collegiate baseball career cut short by an injury and will assist the coaching staff at practices as well as serve as the Bearcats first-base coach on game-days.

2011 Season (Junior):

  • Appeared in six games.
  • Totaled four 4 hits, 2 RBI, 3 walks, and 8 putouts.
  • Went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored vs. Ohio State (2/18).

Hutchinson Community College: 2010 Region 6 Champions ... as a redshirt sophomore, helped lead team to third-place finish at 2010 Junior College World Series, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team ... finished 2010 season with a .351 average, with 37 RBI, eight home runs and 31 stolen bases.

High School: 2007 All-State selection at Topeka West when he batted .550 his senior year.

Personal: Born Nov. 10, 1988 ... son of Anthony and Vivian Best.

Academic Major: Liberal Arts.
