CINCINNATI - A walk-off single through the left side of the infield by sophomore Chris Peters (Tipp City, Ohio/Tipp City) gave the University of Cincinnati baseball team an 11-10 victory over Bradley University in the opener of a four-game series Friday night at Marge Schott Stadium. Cincinnati improved to 2-4 on the young campaign, while Bradley fell to 2-4 overall.

Senior Mike Spina (Newberry, Fla./Newberry) paced the Bearcats going 3-for-4 from the plate with four RBI, including a three-run home run in the second inning. After a scoreless top of the first inning, Cincinnati jumped on top of Bradley with five runs in the bottom of the frame. Junior Jamel Scott (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) was hit by a pitch to start things off and advanced to second base on a walk by senior Cameron Satterwhite (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller). Spina drove home the first run of the game by plating Scott on a single to right field. Junior Lance Durham (Forest Park, Ohio/Roger Bacon) followed with a single up the middle to score Satterwhite and advance Spina to third base.

With Spina and Durham on the corners, sophomore Justin Riddell drilled a single into right field and as the Bradley rightfielder approached the ball, the ball went underneath his glove to the wall, clearing the bases and placing UC in front, 5-0.

Bradley scored two runs in the top of the second inning, but Cincinnati quickly expanded its lead with five more runs in its half of the inning. Three straight walks to sophomore Nick Rohlfs (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller), Scott, and Satterwhite loaded the bases, bringing Spina to the plate. A wild pitch scored Rohlfs and moved Scott and Satterwhite up a base, before Spina hit an opposite field home run that increased the Bearcat advantage to 9-4. Durham followed Spina's long ball with a solo shot of his own that ricocheted off Fifth Third Arena, upping the UC margin to 10-4. The home run was Durham's first of his Bearcat career.

With two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth, the Braves closed within three runs, 10-7.

Bradley continued its comeback with one run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth to tie the game at 10-10.

However, the Bearcats used a Durham walk and a Riddell single to put runners on first and second base with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. Redshirt freshman Zach Collaros (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville) pinch-ran for Durham and both Collaros and Riddell moved up ninety-feet on a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt down the third base line by freshman T.J. Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle). After an intentional walk to junior Beach Brooks (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) loaded the bases, Peters ended the game with a game-winning single through the left side of the infield to plate Collaros and give the Bearcats an 11-10 triumph.

Cincinnati and Bradley meet in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. at Marge Schott Stadium. The second game of the doubleheader will be seven innings in length.
