CAMDEN, N.J. - The University of Cincinnati baseball team rebounded from a disappointing loss on Friday to beat Temple University 11-5 on Saturday evening and even the series at one game apiece. Sophomore catcher Woody Wallace recorded two hits and scored four runs to lead the Bearcats.

The win improves Cincinnati to 11-17 on the year and 2-6 in the American Athletic Conference. Temple falls to 8-15 and 3-5.

On the mound, junior Ryan Atkinson struggled through the first inning but settled in to pitch 6.0 solid innings for the Bearcats. The righty allowed just two earned runs with four walks and six strikeouts to get the win. He is now 4-1 on the season.

Wallace and freshman Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) each had two hits while sophomore Forrest Perron (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) recorded three RBIs. Both McVey and senior Matt Williams (Mason, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian) tallied two RBIs.

After falling behing 5-0, the Bearcats scored 11 unanswered runs, but the tale of the game was how UC was able to capitalize on the seven Temple errors. Cincinnati managed to score 11 runs off of just seven hits but were heavily aided by the Owls' miscues.

The Bearcats entered the top of the second facing the 5-0 deficit but scored five runs of their own in the frame to tie the score. Wallace was hit to lead off the inning and back-to-back errors by the Temple defense loaded the bases with zero outs. The next batter, Williams, lifted a ball to centerfield that was lost in the lights and dropped for a double to score two runs. The third defensive error of the inning scored two more runs for Cincinnati before a sacrifice fly by Perron tied the game at 5-all.

Cincinnati scored two more runs in the top of the third inning to take a 7-5 lead in the game. Wallace led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Rob Blissitt, Jr. (Markham, Ill./Thornwood). Another Temple error put McVey onboard and scored Wallace before a flyout brought home McVey.

UC added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to bolster its lead to 11-5. Three runs came home in the seventh inning following a bases-loaded wild pitch and a two-RBI single by Perron. In the eighth, McVey recorded an RBI single of his own to score Wallace, his fourth run of the day, and build the lead to 11-5.

The Owls scored their runs in the bottom of the first inning when Atkinson got two quick outs before loading the bases with a single, a walk and a bit batsman. A bases-loaded walk and hit-by-pitch put the Owls ahead 2-0 before a fielding error in the outfield led to three more runs crossing the plate for Temple.

Redshirt sophomore Colton Cleary (Nicholasville, Ky./Lexington Catholic) pitched 3.0 quality innings of relief work for Cincinnati, giving up only one hit with no runs, no walks and one strikeout.

The Bearcats and the Owls will play the rubber match of the series on Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Temple's home facility but will now be played at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J.
