CAMDEN, N.J. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell 7-2 in the third game of the series against Temple University on Sunday afternoon in Camden, N.J. With the loss, the Bearcats drop the series 2-1.

Cincinnati is now 11-18 on the year and 2-7 in the American Athletic Conference while Temple moves to 9-15 and 4-5 in the American.

Cincinnati collected seven hits in the game with two apiece by sophomore centerfielder Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and freshman shortstop Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason).

UC starting pitcher Mitch Patishall (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) went 7.0 innings and tied a career-high with six strikeouts. He gave up seven hits with three earned runs and two walks in the game.

Temple scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to put Cincinnati in a two-run deficit. Patishall seemed a bit uneasy in the early-going, giving up three hits, including two doubles, and two wild pitches to accumulate for the 2-0 score.

The Bearcats got one run back in the top of the third when senior Matt Williams (Mason, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian) shot a single up the middle to score sophomore Colin Hawk from third base.

Cincinnati managed to tie the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning after putting runners on the corners with one out. Freshman Rob Blissitt, Jr. (Markham, Ill./Thornwood) singled through the left side to bring home Sophomore Woody Wallace (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) and collect his first-career RBI in a crucial situation to tie the ballgame at 2-2.

The two runs would be all the Bearcats could muster, however, as they went scoreless the rest of the way and allowed the Owls to score five more runs for the 7-2 victory. TU held a slim 4-2 lead before knocking in three runs in the eighth inning and putting the game out of reach for UC.

Cincinnati will head back to the Buckeye State for two midweek matchups at the Joe Nuxhall Classic held at Miami (Ohio) University. The Bearcats will face Wright State University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 at McKie Field. On Wednesday, UC will face either Miami or Xavier University with the time to be determined.
