Satterwhite finished 3-for-6 with four RBI, while Welsh earned his first win of the season.
Senior Mike Spina (Newberry, Fla./Newberry) started the UC scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to right field, placing UC in front , 1-0. The home run was Spina’s 13th of the season.
After Villanova tied the game at one with one run in the top of the second inning, Jacquot hit the Bearcats second two-out, solo home run of the game, pushing Cincinnati back in front, 2-1. The home run was Jacquot’s fourth of the season.
Just as the Wildcats knotted the game at two in the top of the fourth, UC widened its lead in its half of the fourth to 6-2. Sophomore Chris Peters (Tipp City, Ohio/Tipp City) reached base via a Villanova error to start the inning and two batters later, Peters scored from first on a double to left-center field by freshman T.J. Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle). On the first pitch of the next at-bat, Satterwhite hit a two-run home run to left field upping the margin to three runs, 5-2. With two outs in the inning, Durham singled up the middle before scoring on a double to right field off the bat of sophomore Justin Riddell (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic), extending the lead to 6-2.
In the sixth, Satterwhite continued his recent success at the plate with his second home run of the game, a solo shot to left-center field, opening the lead to 7-2. After the Satterwhite home run, Spina singled to center field and then moved to second on a Durham walk, before scoring on a single through the right side by Riddell. Freshman Kiley Jones (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) walked on four pitches to load the bases for freshman Cory Hough (Lebanon, Ohio/Springboro). Hough drew a walk, which scored Durham and kept the bases loaded for Peters. Peters brought home a run with a walk, Jacquot brought home two with a single through the right side, T.J. Jones scored another on a RBI single, and a Satterwhite RBI ground out capped off a nine-run inning that put Cincinnati ahead 15-2.
Cincinnati added another run in the eighth and redshirt Sam Slavik (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) gave up just one hit in the final three innings to earn the first save of his career and close out the 16-2 win.
