CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team struggled from the mound on Saturday afternoon and fell 11-2 to the University of Memphis at Marge Schott Stadium. The loss sets up a rubber match on Sunday where the Bearcats will honor five seniors in a pregame ceremony.

Cincinnati could not keep the Tigers off the base paths, giving up 15 hits and 11. The pitching trio of starter Connor Walsh (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) and relievers Austin Woodby (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and Mitch Patishall (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) struggled throughout the game and allowed the Tigers to score at least two runs in four different innings to build their lead.

With the loss, Cincinnati falls to 21-27 and 5-15 in the American Athletic Conference. Walsh takes the loss to move to 5-7 on the season. Memphis improves to 26-25 and 7-14.

Memphis jumped on Walsh for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to set the tone for the Tigers. A bases-loaded double scored three runs for Carter White and a groundout added another run before the inning came to a close.

The Bearcats manufactured their only runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two to cut the lead in half. Freshman Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was walked to lead off the inning and scored from first base on a double to the wall by sophomore Forrest Perron (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville). Two batters later, senior Ryan Quinn (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) hit a sac fly to score Perron and cut the UM lead to 4-2.

The Tigers kept their foot on the pedal, scoring three runs in the fifth, and two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to push their lead to 11-2 for the final score.

Cincinnati recorded seven hits by seven players on the day. Senior Matt Williams (Mason, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian) hit a single in the seventh inning to extend his current hitting streak to 10 games while McVey singled in the second to push his streak to seven games.

The Bearcats and the Tigers will play the rubber match of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Marge Schott Stadium. Before the game, Cincinnati will honor seniors Justin Glass (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll), Ethan McAlpine (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller), Quinn, Matt Ring (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) and Williams in the final home game of their careers.
