CINCINNATI – Two student-athletes on the University of Cincinnati baseball team were named preseason All-BIG EAST Conference selections by CollegeSportsMadness.com on Jan. 3.
Outfielder Justin Glass (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) was selected to the preseason all-conference first team, while outfielder/catcher Braden Kline (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) was named a second-team choice.
Glass, a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and second-team All-BIG EAST selection in 2011, batted .326 with four home runs, 45 RBI and a .398 on-base percentage while starting all 57 games as the designated hitter last season. Additionally, the 6-foot-2 sophomore was named to the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge All-Tournament Team and was the MVP of 2011 Joe Nuxhall Classic and during his freshman campaign.
Kline hit .326 with five home runs and 31 RBI after moving from catcher to the outfield last year on his way to being named a third-team all-conference choice. The 6-foot-1 senior finished the season top 10 in the conference in home runs (5 - T6th) and hitting (.356 - ninth) during league play. In addition, Kline began 2011 with a 16-game hitting streak that began during the 2010 season finale, which ranked fourth best in conference, and later recorded a 15-game hit streak from April 16 through May 11.
The UC baseball team began preseason training last week in preparation for its season opener on Feb. 17 against Purdue University in Clearwater, Fla. as part of the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge.
