Baseball Kicks Off Season with First Pitch Reception|
Feb. 3, 2014
CINCINNATI - Head Coach Ty Neal and the University of Cincinnati baseball program welcomed fans and UC Diamond Club members at the fourth annual First Pitch Reception on Friday, Jan. 31 at the Riverfront Club at Great American Ball Park.
The event, which highlighted first-year head coach Neal and his coaching staff, featured Cincinnati Reds' broadcaster Chris Welsh as the special guest speaker. University of Cincinnati Interim Athletics Director Desiree Reed-Francois also spoke to the crowd, as well as Reds Chief Operating Officer Phil Castellini.
The night culminated with Coach Neal addressing the fans and expressing his vision for the Cincinnati baseball program for the 2014 season and beyond.
"Our guys will play the game the right way" Neal said at the reception. "We will play hard and we will respect the University when we play. Every day in our program, everything we do, is to prepare us for a championship."
Neal spoke with the 200 people in attendance about the importance of their support throughout the year. "I want to create a first-class experience for our players and the Diamond Club helps us to do that. For me, the best part of the Diamond Club is being able to build relationships with all of the people who care about this program and the well-being of our student athletes."
The Diamond Club is more vital than ever in the fight to win championships. Money raised through the Diamond Club goes directly to UC baseball to fund expenses such as stadium improvements, most recently in the locker room and dugouts, and the future addition of a nutrition oasis for student-athletes in 2014.
Currently there are over 150 members to the Diamond Club. Fans have also purchased over 325 season tickets to date, which is ahead of last season's February numbers.
To become a Diamond Club member, where membership begins at just $100, go to the UCATS/Diamond Club website or call 1-877-55-UCATS.
Season tickets for UC baseball are still available for all 25 home games at Marge Scott Stadium for as little as $10 and roughly $.40 per game. To purchase season tickets for the 2014 baseball season, contact the UC ticket office at 1--877-CATS-TIX or online at www.GoBEARCATS.com/tickets.
The Bearcats will kick off the 2014 season Feb. 14, 15 and 16 with three games at Elon University in Elon, N.C. The first home game of the season will be played on March 4 at 4 p.m. against the University of Kentucky.
