CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team will conclude its five-game homestand with two midweek games at Marge Schott Stadium. The Bearcats will host Miami (Ohio) University on Tuesday, April 1 and will welcome Bowling Green State University on Wednesday, April 2. Both games will begin at 6:30 p.m.


  • The Bearcats will hand the ball to junior right-handed pitcher Grant Walker (Brookeville, Ohio/Northmont) for the game against the Miami Redhawks. Walker has accumulated a 7.08 ERA through 20.1 innings pitched. He has only given out five walks on the season, a team-high for players who have pitched at least 18.0 innings, and has 14 strikeouts.
  • The Cincinnati starter for the game against BGSU is still to be determined.


  • Miami is 10-15 on the season and 2-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
  • The Redhawks have lost five straight games with their last win coming in 10 innings against Western Michigan on March 23.
  • MU beat No. 10 Louisville 6-4 on March 7 in Louisville, Ky.
  • Junior Ryan Elble leads the team with a .342 batting average, a .605 slugging percentage and a .469 on-base percentage.
  • Miami has seven players who have recorded at least 20 hits on the year.
  • Senior Dan Walsh leads the team with 28 hits while sophomore Gary Russo has 27 and junior Scott Slappey has 26.
  • Senior Charles Zubrod, the starting pitcher against the Bearcats, has amassed a 7.64 ERA with 11 walks and 14 strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched.


  • UC and MU have met 169 times in program history. The Redhawks lead the series 101-67-1 and have won three of the last four meetings.
  • The teams split a home-and-home series last season with the Bearcats winning 15-6 in Cincinnati and the Redhawks winning 9-4 in Oxford, Ohio.
  • The first game in the series dates all the way back to 1886, a 14-5 Cincinnati win in Oxford.


  • Bowling Green State has an 8-16 record through 24 games this season.
  • The Falcons swept a doubleheader with Northern Illinois in its last time out on March 30, winnings 4-1 and 7-3.
  • Junior Brian Bien has a .384 batting average to lead the Falcons. He also leads the team with 16 runs scored, 33 hits and a .446 on-base percentage.
  • The Falcons have 13 seniors and redshirt seniors on the squad, and all but three have either started at least 10 games or pitched at least 10 innings.


  • Cincinnati and Bowling Green State have matched up 41 times prior to this season with BGSU leading 30-11. The teams have not played each other since March 12, 2008, a 9-3 BGSU victory in Cincinnati.
  • The Falcons won 12 consecutive games in the series dating from April 1, 1972 to April 1, 1978. Cincinnati has never won more than three straight games against the Falcons.
  • UC won the first game of the series 5-2 on March 30, 1963 in Cincinnati.
