CINCINNATI – For the second time this season, University of Cincinnati senior outfielder Justin Riddell (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, the league announced Monday.
In Cincinnati’s three-game sweep over Villanova University last week, Riddell batted .462 (6-for-13) with two runs scored, one double and seven RBI. In Game 1 of Thursday’s doubleheader, Riddell hit 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored.
Riddell was also named to the honor roll on March 7 and is the second Bearcat to be named to the conference honor roll twice this season, joining senior RHP Nick Johnson (Delphos, Ohio/St. John’s), who earned the distinction on April 11 and March 14. Junior first baseman Nic Spence (Victoria, Australia/St. Joseph’s) is the third UC player to earn honor roll status this season when he received the tribute along with Johnson on April 11.
Senior right-handed pitcher Dan Jensen (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) is the lone Bearcat to receive player of the week honors when he was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on April 4.
TUESDAY’S XAVIER GAME MOVED TO MSS:
Cincinnati’s game against Xavier University on Tuesday has been moved to Marge Schott Stadium. First pitch is still scheduled for 3 p.m. ET, with Xavier remaining the home team. The Tuesday matchup was originally scheduled to occur at Xavier’s Hayden Field, but the condition of the grass field was determined unsuitable for play due to the weather over the weekend. Marge Schott Stadium features a synthetic playing surface with a state-of-the-art drainage system.
RING OF RED ON WEDNEDAY: UC’s 6:30 p.m. Wednesday home game against Xavier at Marge Schott Stadium has been deemed a ‘Ring of Red’ game, which encourages fans to wear red. Fans who come to the game wearing red can purchase tickets for just $1. Additionally, Ring of Red t-shirts will be given away while supplies last and Lucy the Bearcat from the Cincinnati Zoo will be in attendance, weather permitting.
