CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team plays a pair of nonconference midweek games against local rival Miami (Ohio) during the next two days. The Bearcats and RedHawks play at UC’s Marge Schott Stadium on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., then battle Wednesday at McKie Field at 6 p.m.
Bearcat right hander Christian McElroy (2-5, 5.64 ERA) takes the mound on Tuesday. The RedHawks will counter with left hander Brian Thene (2-2, 3.69 ERA). UC has not named a starter for Wednesday’s contest while Miami will start right hander Nathan Williams (4-2, 4.35 ERA).
Miami leads the series 100-66-1 having won four of the last five meetings. The RedHawks won last season’s meeting 7-5 on May 9 in Oxford.
The Bearcats are 13-11 in nonconference play this season, having won their last two non-BIG EAST games: 5-4 over Thomas More (4/24) and 5-3 over Ohio State (4/17). Both UC games were at home.
UC is coming off three losses at Pittsburgh over the weekend: 7-3 and 4-3 in Saturday’s doubleheader and 10-9 on Sunday.
Ian Happ led all Bearcats in the series hitting .462 with six hits in 13 at bats with two solo home runs, four RBI and two steals. Jeff Murray had three hits in eight at bats with a pair of doubles. UC starters Connor Walsh (eight) and Grant Walker (six) achieved new career highs in strikeouts.
UC plays host to Seton Hall in a three-game series Friday (6:30 p.m.), Saturday (4 p.m.) and Sunday (Noon).
