Ian Happ Named Cape League All-Star|

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati baseball player Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added to his growing collection of accolades on Saturday when he was selected for the Cape League’s All-Star game. The freshman will start for the East Division as the designated hitter. Cape Cod Baseball League Commissioner Paul Galop announced the two 25-man rosters, which were chosen by the managers of the 10 Cape League teams. The game will be played on July 27th at Red Wilson Field in Yarmouth, Mass.
Happ is spending his summer playing in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League for the Harwich Mariners located in Harwich, Mass. He is currently tied for seventh in the league with a .349 batting average through 22 games and has recorded 29 hits with 12 RBIs and 14 runs scored while stealing eight bases. In a game against the Brewster Whitecaps on July 3, he cranked two homeruns in his first two at bats and added a single and a double to lead the Mariners to a 10-3 victory.
The second baseman is one of only five college freshmen chosen as an All-Star, and one of only two who will start in the game.
The 2013 Friendly’s Cape League All-Star game will be played Saturday, July 27 at Red Wilson Field Tickets are available online at www.capecodbaseball.org and at all 10 Cape League fields. First pitch is at 4:30 p.m., and the game will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports.
